10 Things I'm Thankful For & Our Thanksgiving-Birthday Celebration

Life has a funny way of reminding us of what's really important. And November seemed to be full of tiny reminders that all pointed to the most important! So here is a rundown of last month, starting with 10 things that I'm thankful for...

10. Yearly planner that's on clearance for 60% off. I generally don't use a planner because most of the time my phone is sufficient in keeping track of our schedules. But during this time of year life gets a bit crazy and let's face it, I suck at time management.

9. Chuck-E-Cheese, Yes Chuck-E-Cheese. You read that right, Chuck-E-Cheese. I'm not a fan of the place, but sometimes it's not about me. We went to a birthday party there a few weeks ago and the kids had a great time. There once was a time when the idea of going there would have made me jump up and down with excitement. And every now and then I need to remember that.

8. Piggyback Rides. Rory is way beyond piggyback rides from me and to be honest I don't think I ever gave him one. However, Rian is the perfect size for them (at least from me). She giggles and grins from ear to ear.

7. The best school picture I've ever seen! I think every kid goes through an awkward, even horrible smile phase. You know the one that leaves you wondering what were they thinking about to make that face? I mean they even made a Modern Family episode about it. Well Rory is in that phase...(if you haven't noticed). So the thought of his school pictures this year left me and Randy wondering what the final outcome would be.

6. Loving moments between Rory and Rian. I love these moments when they don't know I'm watching. As they get older there are more and more moments filled with Rian yelling because Rory is trying to squeeze her and spin her around the room. Or of Rory screaming at the top of his lungs as Rian is reaching for his favorite legos. But I know they love each other so much and literally at the end of the day, they can't be without one another.

5. My sweet boy who loves to help around the house. I wish I still looked at housework like Rory does. He loves to help me vacuum, dust, really anything that involves some sort of gadget. Give him a spray bottle full of cleaner, show him where to aim and he's all set! I could learn a few things about how to look at doing housework from him.

4. My adorable taste-tester! I love that Rian wants to be with me, even when I'm busy in the kitchen making dinner. I'm grateful that she's a good eater (and can be my little taste-tester)!

3. The silly moments during this busy time of year. I have to admit that I've been a little preoccupied getting the house ready for a special houseguest, Thanksgiving and a-certain-someone's birthday celebration. But I'm glad I was able to capture this great moment between Randy and Rian.

2. A healthy family. The old saying, You have everything if you have your health, is so true. It is specially true when it comes to family. I was so busy the last few weeks trying to check items off my to-do list that when Rory got a stomach virus the week before Thanksgiving, it left me dead in my tracks. All of a sudden I could care less if I had enough place settings for everyone or if I remembered to buy butter. The list could wait. It had to. Going on day two of Rory not being able to hold anything down, he was left pale, with purple lips and sucken eyes, I knew an immediate trip to urgent care was  needed. It was determined that his stomach virus left him severely dehydrated and he required several bags of IV fluid. Now this doesn't seem too bad and completely manageable to an adult, but to my small child, this was pretty scary. But he was very brave and I've never been prouder. As he recovered over the weekend we thought Rian might have the chicken pox. After everything, Thanksgiving would have to be canceled. After all, I've never had them and what were we going to do? I'm so very thankful that Rory's virus was quickly cured and it was only a chicken pox scare, not an outbreak. Phew!

(I have a few pics of Rory at urgent care because I was sending them to Randy with updates while he was at home with Rian)

1. Every seat at our table was full this year for Thanksgiving. I'm so very thankful for everyone that was here with us and for so many that were not. I'm especially thankful that I was able to host my Nana. It meant a lot to me to sit at the table with my grandmother, who by the way is 92 years old. I'm thankful that my parents and mother-in-law were able to make the trip out to celebrate with us. But I'm most thankful for Randy and the kids. They make me the happiest and can't imagine a day without them.
Warning: the following photos are not the best, in fact they actually look like they're from the blooper reel. Regardless of how the pictures look, we had a great day!

This year Rory's birthday was on Thanksgiving so we had a little celebration for his 5th birthday. All he wanted was an orange cake. "Mommy, snow patrol orange"...legos!

Thanks for stopping by! I'll be back shortly with Rory's birthday party.

xoxo
