This past weekend we celebrated Rory's 7th birthday! He asked for a trash truck party, so that's what he got. He requested that his party be green, black and white with green trash/recycle trucks.
Rory's favorites at seven years old:
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A trash truck guy
What is your favorite color?
Green
What is your favorite food?
Peanut butter sandwich
What is your favorite thing to do?
Play with my Legos
We had a bounce house. The kids loved to watch it inflate!
We surprised Rory with the Star Wars banner. The company doesn't offer a trash truck banner, so Stars Wars it was!!!. He was so excited searching for all the characters on the banner. By the way, if you're in the area, the company we use is awesome! Their website is linked here.
It started to rain during the party and Randy escorted the kids to the house.
One of Rory's requests was that his cake have a trash truck and a "7" candle on it. So he picked this truck out on Amazon.
Making his birthday wish!
Rory also requested that I make him a trash truck piñata. Request granted! (Photos and linked instructions are at the end of this post.)
Taking the first swing at it...
...and now taking his turn at the end of the line.
But this truck would not go easy, so Randy went for it.
Goodie bags. I went super easy this year with the goodie bags. Rory didn't really care what went into them, so I put a crazy straw, bubbles, a glow stick and some chocolates inside a black bag to resemble a garbage bag.
He really wanted this Lego set. I know what a surprise!!!
I had to add one of my favorite photos of Rory as a baby. I remember taking this photo when he was only a few months old and thinking how big he looked. And know this baby is seven years old.
Masking tape works great...
...electrical tape does not!
I didn't use newspaper this time because I didn't have any. So I use computer paper for both steps. If I had thought it through, I would have used a different color paper for each step, because it was a little difficult to tell where I needed to add the paper mache on the second time around the front of the truck. I also pocked holes for the tires.
I used a single strip of black crape streamer at the bottom so that the piñata would sit flat with when I added the tires.
The tires were somewhat flush with the bottom of the piñata. The tires were secured with paper brads. (I had to open the bottom of the piñata to fasten the tires.) The other details of the truck was construction paper glued directly onto the streemers. The recycle symbols were from a google search.
The twine was used to hang the piñata.
