Farewell December

This last week has been pretty low key around here.

It's been super cold but we've managed to break in the trampoline.

Rian's coloring obsession has continued. She gets a kick out me coloring with her. She starts to giggle the sweetest giggle as soon as I put crayon to paper.

I think we did a pretty good job!

However, coloring the dishwasher is frowned upon! By the way, she has managed to color on everything: the tile floor, the kitchen table and chairs, the coffee table, her plastic dishes. You name it, she's colored on it. I think I need to invest in a club-size box of magic eraser pads.

We were on snow watch hoping that it would snow.

Rian practiced making faces.

And making a fishie face...Puffy would be proud.

We bundled up everywhere we went.

We engaged in some friendly nerf wars! (More on this in a later post).

We made some Rudolph and Clarice reindeer cookies, and some bear ones too!

And yes I'm one of those people who doesn't mind if the cookies are slightly burnt! I actually make a small batch of burnt ones!

It's always nap time, right Pinky?!?

So this afternoon it showed that it was snowing and raining here. Yet, I looked outside and nothing. I zoomed in to our street and it was covered in pink indicating a mix of snow and rain... Hmm. I guess technically it was snowing, but because of the wind the snow never hit the ground. And you really had to look hard to see any flurries falling. I saw a total of 3 tiny flurries. So much for the dream of us being snowed in on NYE with Randy. Instead he left for work this evening. Oh well, a girl can dream, right?

Look at cute Maggie is all bundled up in her sweater and coat. I swear she should be in a L.L. Bean catalog.

Warm kisses on a cold cheek

Well that's all folks for our last days of 2014. I hope you all are having a fun and safe NYE! Wishing you all the very best 2015! Until next year...

Our Merry Little Christmas

I'd like to say and even imagine that our Christmas Eve was spent with the kiddos cheerfully playing together and making cookies for Santa. Instead it went a little more like me telling Rory to stop pouting, continuously pulling Rian down from whatever she decided to climb on, and me threatening to call Santa, all while Christmas movies played in the background. But in their defense (if the kids actually have one), Randy and I decided to let them stay up late until he got home from work. So we were all very tired!

I managed to capture this sweet moment between Rory and Rian during our late night wait for Santa. We may not have gotten a perfect picture of them during our holiday photos, but this one will do! My heart melted.

We continued our tradition of tracking Santa on the NORAD website. Around 11:30 we checked the website and noticed that Santa was approaching Arizona and I told Rory it wouldn't be long before he would be here...if they were being good, of course!

A few minutes later the phone rang, and I looked at Rory with a shocked expression and wondered who could be calling so late. Hello? Hi Santa!

Rory froze in his steps, slowly turned to listen to my half of the phone call. SANTA?!?

He ran over to Rian and explained to her that Santa was on the phone and he was in fact very close to our house. Santa asked to talk to Rory because he knew that the kids were not on their best behavior. Rory almost lost his mind! Santa also was calling to tell me that Randy was on his way home. How does Santa know these things?!?

Once Randy got home we sprinkled a special reindeer mix that Santa gave us on our front yard just as it began to rain. It was magical! Then we poured a glass of milk for Santa and kids headed to bed. The upside to having the kids stay up so late, they were asleep before their little heads hit the pillow.

Christmas Morning!

Waiting at the top of the stairs for Randy to give us the ok to head down.
Rian was up at 8:00, but I managed to entertain her for an hour and a half.

Rory on the other hand, had to be woken up by all of us at 9:30.

The golden toy... A batbot!! Santa came through!

Rian was not impressed by Christmas. She took the teddy bear that Santa left and tossed it over her shoulder and it went flying across our living room. Hey Rian, maybe Santa only left you a teddy bear because you won't stop climbing the walls after he specifically told you not to. She then proceeded to pull bows off a few presents that were not hers. So she decided that eating a cookie was a way better idea than opening her gifts.

Opening his gift from Rian

Giving her a thank you hug and kiss

Watching Daddy open the gift he picked out and wrapped all by himself. He was so proud!

Rian thought the $1.00 play pack from her stocking was the best thing! What can I say, the girl loves to color.

And when all the presents were unwrapped, they opened the giant present from us... a trampoline!!!

Rian thought the trampoline was better as a dance stage. Notice the poor teddy bear just laying on the floor right where it landed after being tossed aside for a cookie.

And just in case we didn't get Rian's message of how unimpressed she really was over our Christmas morning, she literally dragged in the bag of mega bloks to play with. Yes, the hand-me-down bag of blocks that were once Rory's.

Nap time already?

I guess so!

And just like that it was over.

I decided to move our hot beverage bar from our family room to our entry table on Christmas Eve for a few reasons:
1) so that it would be close to us while we open presents on Christmas,
2) just in case Santa wanted a cup of coffee instead of milk...wink, wink,
3) and we used the other table it was on as a wrapping table on Christmas Eve.
{A little spark of genius during the chaos of Christmas Eve}

The right side of the table was for Santa. We left him a glass of milk, a can of coca-cola (with his picture on it), Mrs. Field's cookies and some ding dongs both left in the wrappers just in case Santa wanted to save them for later. After all we are on the tailend of his very long night. He's probably pretty full by the time he visits us! And of course we left some carrots and the reindeer mix for Rudolfph and his friends.

Making some hot chocolate

I absolutely love the wild bed head hair on Christmas morning!

I made cinnamon rolls to go with our coffee and hot chocolate.

As soon as we were done opening gifts, I made my way to the kitchen to start our big Christmas meal. And of course I had to have my little taste tester with me.

When the spoon doesn't work...

Seriously the cutest little food face ever...along with her own version of bed head!

While I cooked, Randy got busy putting this monster together.

It was so cold out that Rian came in looking like Rudolph

Enjoying an early Christmas dinner in our jammies. I've always wanted to spend all day Christmas in our jammies. It was so relaxing with no make up and flat bed head hair. I'm so glad we did it, but I really don't want to make a tradition of it. It's not really my style. I really do enjoy dressing up a little for the holidays.

Followed by a much needed nap

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

I'm so glad you stopped by to take a look back at our day. I hope that you all had a magical day with the ones that you love.
