Harrington Holidays

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

Like you all, we are in the mix of all the merry and bright around here. But to be honest, I'm not really sure how we're approaching miid-December already. In a blink of an eye I went from cleaning up pizza and birthday cake to decorating the tree and drinking egg nog.

Lately Rory has been making requests for the chalk table that sits on the front porch. He asked if I could create a holiday themed one that said, "Merry Christmas to everyone who comes here", with Santa. And you know I did!

But as I started on the letters, Rian asked, "Mommy, can I help?" So I told her she could help me with Santa.

And our very own Rusty Griswold helping with the lights out front...with hot chocolate in hand.

I'm not sure how much help these two little elves were.

And my Clark!

Anyone else envision Clark Griswold stapling his sleeve to the roof?!?
Did you take your jacket off so that you wouldn't staple your sleeve?

Drumroll please....

When Maggie matches the holiday decor.

Mommy look...

...Ho Ho Ho...

...You're not Santa!

Cutest little elf!

Some holiday crafting

This photo popped up on my Facebook memories yesterday... a sweet two year old Rory. I guess he's always known how to pick out a great tree!

Rian is really excited to get a tree!!!

We're on our way!

And then the Christmas tree curse strikes again...she's out. She has fallen asleep in the car every year!!! It was Sunday evening, so I guess we should have expected it!

What we didn't expect was that the tree-sales would be closing as we pulled up. So Operation Christmas Tree Take 2 began Monday after school (4:11pm to be exact).

By 4:16pm, the curse had struck again!

While she sleeps on the job, Rory gets to work.

She's out, boot falling off and all.

There he goes...

He takes his job very serious...

And goes through them all, even the ones tucked in the back.

Yup, it was my turn to tote this one around.

We have a winner!

So while Randy and Rory got everything squared away with the tree, I decided that I was going to take the very sleepy and heavy Rian back to the car, which was not far, but far enough to make the walk with a four year old's dead weight very uncomfortable. Not to mention juggling her while I try and unlock the car, then shift her from side to side to open the car door and plop her into her seat. (By the way, this is when a car salesman selling a mini van with automatic sliding doors would have most certainly made a sale!) I buckle her in and get myself in the car and at the precise moment my buckle clicks in, I hear from the back seat, "Where's Rory? Where's Daddy? Where's the tree?"

And just like every year, she wakes up as we are finishing...Darn you Christmas Tree Curse!!!
I ran her back to the trees so that she could see the only tree fitting for Rian, a pink, purple and blue tree! She loved it!!! Shocking, I know!

The made it home and was ready to be decorated! Rian was in charge of fluffing out the tree.

Rian ran over to Randy and gave him the biggest hug because he fixed a strand of lights that had gone out! It was the sweetest you did it Daddy!

So I'm not sure if I've mentioned this in the past or not, but Randy's idea of using icicle lights on the tree is brilliant! All those lights are only two strands of icicle lights!!!

So Maggie trying to nonchalantly take another drink out of my egg nog that is on the side table. Santa's watching Maggie!

Lights...check, ornaments...check, star topper...

Hold on, the topper committee is in session to discuss the best spot to place the star...

Here? No...

How about here?...

Drumroll please...

Ta-da!!!

Like so many homes, December 1st means the arrival of a little friend. Ralphie surprised the kiddos this year with Christmas activity books. And I mean he really surprised the kids, they walked passed him sitting in the hall several times before I mentioned that Ralphie was here.

Rian was excited that Ralphie was here until she accidentally knocked Ralphie off the chair and when she reached down to pick him up, Rory yelled Don't touch him! He'll lose his magic! Rian was done. She wanted nothing to do with Ralphie and the book that he had left for her.

Rory however, loved his activity book that was filled with several different types of holiday-themed puzzles. He laid down on the floor in the hall and got to work solvnig some puzzles.

Dec 2nd

Reindeer pancakes it is!

Dec 3rd

Dec 4th
On the way to school Bruce Springsteen's version came on the radio and Rory yelled, "This is Ralphie's favorite Christmas song!"

Dec 5th

A nice 42 degrees at 8:00 am to wake up to!

Dec 6th
We have yet to go look at Christmas lights. Randy woke up that day not feeling well and then I wake up the next day feeling under the weather. So this is still on the list to do! But there are a ton of houses in our neighborhood that have done a great job with the lights!

Dec 7th

Dec 8th

Dec 9th

Dec 10th

Ralphie snuck a few bites of our Sunday donuts!

Dec 11th

Dec 12th

Rory left Ralphie's ornament out for him to hang. And this morning, we found Ralphie's ornament on the tree.

So as much as I wish everything we did was centered around holiday activities, normal life still keeps us just as busy. I call my Nana every Wednesday and Rory got in on one of our calls. I love hearing their conversations.

How she feels about going to the dentist.

She did great! The dentist said that her x-rays were perfect!

Thumbs up to no cavities and the dentist said that she's doing great job with brushing and flossing.

Thumbs up to a new toothbrush!

Well on that note: I have to get ready for my own dentist appointment. I hope you all are enjoying your week. Thanks for stopping by!!!
