Hello All!
It's been a long time since I've posted. For some reason I tend to slack a little this time of year. But anyway I've been meaning to share with you all that Rory has entered into a new (and confusing and scary) phase of his life... loosing his baby teeth. The whole idea of his teeth coming out freaks him out a little. And when we explain the process to him, I can see that he's trying to wrap his mind around the concept. For a while he thought all his teeth were going to fall out at the same time and man did that idea do a doozie on the poor kid. Even though he still gets a little worried when a tooth becomes loose, he's getting better at dealing with it all. I have to say that once Rory's teeth become loose, they fall out pretty quickly. He's lost two so far.
The first tooth fell out while he was eating his dinner. He bit into a strawberry and out it came. Easy-peazy, no pain, no blood, no drama.
Rory has a slight obsession with quarters right now, so it didn't surprise me when he asked if the Tooth Fairy was going to leave him a coin. I told him that he should write the TF and ask her if she could leave one.
The note and tooth were tucked under his pillow and Rory asked if I could leave one of his windows open so that the TF could fly into his room.
The next morning...
The TF left Rory a quarter and tiny note that was tied with dental floss inside a basket made out of a dollar. By the way, rumor has it that it was the TF's husband that gave her the idea to tie the note with dental floss.
The TF's first visit was at the very beginning of May and by Memorial weekend Rory already had another loose tooth. So we spent about a week on watch to see when this next tooth would come out. This past Monday we were having lunch at a restaurant with some friends visiting from Australia, when Rory starting talking about how loose his tooth was and starting wiggling it around. This got our friends' three year old son's attention and he asked me if he could touch Rory's loose tooth. Knowing how freaked out Rory is about this process, I told him he needed to ask Rory first. And right then and there Rory's tooth just fell out. Now if you've ever seen the movie Steel Magnolia, I immediately turned into Daryl Hannah during the lost contact sceen, "No body move!" Rory's tooth was eventually found stuck to his shirt. Phew! After I dumped a small ziplock bag of pretzels on to the table and safely secured the tiny tooth, all was good. Or maybe not. Rory began to freak out because this time around there was a little blood coming from his mouth. Oh what a little blood, a table full of people starring at you and a day spent at the water park will do to a five year old. Cue our rapid escape! Well I hope we didn't scare our friends' sweet little boy too much for when it's his turn to loose his teeth.
Later that night a very tired Rory got to writing his letter to the TF, only to have Rian scribble all over it with a pen I left out. Oops, my bad! Rory was so mad when he had to write a whole new letter. Oh younger sisters! Oh to have Rian as your younger sister!
Poor Rory is so tired and a little sunburned.
This time around, the TF left Rory a quarter wrapped up in a dollar, tied with dental floss and another note.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all are enjoying your weekend. I promise I'll be back soon with all that's been going on with us. I'm going to start a couple of themes to help me with my blogging, "Wordless Wednesday" where the posts will be basically only photos and "Flashback Friday" where I'll post past photos and some stories. So stay tuned!
xoxo
