Adiós August!

I'd like to say that I'm going to miss you, August, but let's face it you sent us on a roller coaster that at many times I wish I could just get off. You started out just fine...

But the fun and games quickly turned to this when hand, foot & mouth disease (HFMD) took over the house.

If you don't know what HFMD is, it's a viral infection that usually only affects children and is highly contagious. It starts with a high fever and when the fever finally breaks a day or two later, sores start to appear around or inside the mouth, hands and feet. The worst part is that there's nothing you can take for it. It just has to run it's course for about 5-7 days.

Rian got it first

Our sweet friends drop off a little get well surprise for her.

Then a few days later, Rory got it

It was official, we were trapped in the house until this awful thing was gone

Poor Rory had a bad case and keeping his feet in ice water was the only thing that helped relieve the itching and burning from the sores

Rory helped me with an organizing overhaul of his room. Being stuck in the house for almost two weeks gives you a lot of time to tackle some projects. He was so proud of his organized room that he wanted to show everyone his new and improved (and more functional) room.

However, Rian spent her confinement doing things a little less productive...

Like climbing through the doggie door

And doing this

By pushing the bottle nipple into a bottle full of milk.

The kids finally got better and I decided that I had enough of being cooped up. I've been loading the kids up in the jogging stroller and jogging around our neighborhood.

And everything finally got back to normal around here

Strawberries are a favorite snack with these two

Bedtime shenanigans

A morning us-ie

Rory finished the summer session at school and start the 2014-2015 school year. It's his final year at his school and I'm a little sad. But in a few short years Rian will be running down those same halls.

After seeing the pic above, I realized that Rory needed a haircut. What's with the Donald Trump-ish hair do?!? It's so poofy. I only wish I realized this the night before. Oh well! So that night, Rory got a haircut.

{a little side note for anyone who's kiddo is uneasy with the sound of the clippers and is hesitant about cutting their hair, like Rory. I put one of his favorite songs on my phone, on repeat of course. And then I gave him a pair of headphones and he was set. Cutting his hair was a breeze.}

And just when I thought the roller coaster was coming to an end...
...one more injury. Rian learned the hard way to not walk in someone's back swing.

We ended the month with a surprise trip to Cali for my MIL's birthday! Have I said how much I love surprises?!? I'm really glad we were there to wish her a happy birthday!

{Rory's reaction when I told him we were going to Cali to surprise Grammie and visit Nama & Papa}

{It was a tad bit bright... I'm just a ray of sunshine}

Rory had a blast, basically pool-hopping between my sister-in-law's, my MIL's and my parent's pools. He was one happy kid!

Rory: "Canonball!!!"

Rian was unsure about the water

She eventually warmed up to the idea of getting in the pools.
{I'm pretty sure that Dillon is up to no good. Nothing good comes from a kid and a bucket full of water!}

Trying to be like the boys on the boogie board.

By the end of the weekend, neither of them wanted to get out of the pool. A big thanks to our families for a great weekend! It was definitely a great way to end the summer!
