Oh Hello Again

I know it's been way too long since my last post. A lot has happen since then and I'll get to some of it in just a minute. But first, let me explain a little bit of my delay in posting lately (I mean besides being busy in all)...

So here it goes:
I sometimes struggle with what to share with everyone. Am I sharing too much? Am I not sharing enough? And I suppose both are true at times. But what I struggle with the most is posting about the harder times in life. I know we all have them, but I don't want to seem like I'm seeking pitty or sympathy by sharing those moments with you all. Well we had one of those moments last month and although some of you know what happened, some of you don't simply because I wasn't sure I wanted to share it here. Let's get to it and then I'll explain what changed my mind.

After a very busy day, which ended with dinner with some friends, I was more than thrilled to get the kids bathed and ready for bed. See this cute kid? Yup that one...Look at that sweet little face.

Fast forward an hour later when he decided to stand on the coffee table while wearing his Spider-Man footie pajamas. Now I don't have any pictures of what happened next, (because that would be weird), so you're going have to use your imagination. Rory slipped off the coffee table and landed in Rian's play grocery cart that was right next to the table. But because of the impact, the cart starting rolling and then slipped out from under him. He went flying up into the air and hit the back of his head on the coffee table as he was coming down. I immediately knew this was not going to end well and as he ran over to me in a flood of tears I could see that there was a ton of blood running down the back of his neck. The moment I saw the back of his head I knew that best case scenario, urgent care. The worst case, a trip to the ER would be needed. So after I dropped off Rian at a friend's house, and played text-tag with Randy while he was at work, I headed to two UC's only to find out that they had already closed for the night. The ER it was...in the Spider-Man jammies and all. I wish I could've gotten a picture of Rory walking into the hospital as Spider-Man. After two hours, Rory was discharged with three staples in the back of his head. Or as he called them, "clips".  Even superheroes have bad days.

So for ten days Rory was a champ at making sure he was careful with his head and he took really good care of his "clips". And finally he was off the see Dr. Popsicle to have the staples removed.

He was nervous...

She was scared she was going to get a shot. She even refused to go into the room and went screaming down the hall!

And there they are...

And the Popsicles

I've gotten the same question from many people... Was I scared? No, but I was overwhelmed. It happened during the week which meant that Randy was at work. Not having someone here to consult with was hard. I didn't want to overreact and get to the ER only to find out that a little nepsporin and a butterfly bandaid was all that was needed. And there was a moment when my mind went blank trying to get our stuff together and I had to stop, take a deep breath and tell myself Amie! Think Amie! But we got through it, with a little help from my friend, Kerry who watched Rian for me. :0)

So what changed my mind about sharing this experience on the blog? Well my cousin, Richard changed my mind. When he heard what happened to Rory he said that I too fell and hit my head on our coffee table as a toddler. I thought maybe he had confused me with someone else, after all my mom didn't mention the story to me. But in fact it was me, my mom had forgotten about the incident until I asked her about it. And that's when I decided that I should document Rory's trip to the emergency room. One day he can read for himself exactly what happened the night that Spider-Man tried to fly! :0)

So now that you know all about the delay, let's quickly move on to what went on after Spider-Man had to go to the ER.

Valentine's Day

The kids' valentines to Randy

Rory's Valentine's Day bag from school

He of course passed out TMNT valentines. Shocker, I know! These were really cool because they were also masks on the other side

The night before Valentine's Day, Rory said that I was his valentine and that I was going to give him a "Donatello in a heart valentine". So about midnight I got to work making a Donatello valentine for my sweet ninja-turtle-loving boy.

So an hour and a half later...

All of our Valentine's Day envelopes filled with goodies.

Randy's was a little full!

Oh Randy knows me so well! It didn't quite fit in my envelope. :0)

The kiddos enjoying their goodies

And then the kids had a couple of special deliveries from the grandparents.
They opened Grammie's first...

My MIL always finds the coolest games for Rory... And I'm sure the name of this game had nothing to do with... ;0)

Randy showing off his mad yo-yo skills

Then they torn into their gifts from Nama and Papa

The next day we went to a cowboy themed birthday for our sweet friend, Owen

Because of Rory's coffee-table incident, he wasn't allowed to ride the ponies (not because he was punished, but because he still had the staples in the back of his head). So he was ok with just petting them.

And Rian wanted nothing to do with the ponies and was content jumping around the trampoline. After all, she gets a ton of practice on our trampoline!

And then there are sweet moments like this that make those hard times a little easier

I'll stop here for now, and I'll pick up again in a few days. As always, thanks for stopping by our little piece of the world.

xoxo
